BLOG # 3: Writing Skills Inventory

Writing is a way to paint a picture, to form an escape from reality and take you wherever you would like to go. Away from work it is a refuge, where you can be whatever you want to be, travel the world, experience emotions, educate yourself on different topics or hobbies, or help others. It is a way we can show we care for others, whether it is a word of encouragement, sympathy, or congratulations. Writing paints the story of our lives, so others can understand who we are, what we stand for, and how much we have grown. Writing can make a story so real to us that it leaves us in a trance for a while, and the thought of the underlying meaning of what we have read circumflexes back on our individual lives.

In the writing skills inventory that was tasked to us by Ma’am Alxen, we were tasked to rate ourselves regarding the different writing skills. At first, I thought the task was a piece of cake. But when I started to rate it, I realized that it is somewhat hard. Luckily, I was able to accomplish it and obtained a result.

3.82. That was my average self-rating for all the twenty-one writing skills stated on the activity. For me, I think it’s quite okay because I know in myself that I’m not that very much good in writing unlike my other classmates. But I must also tell you that I have improved throughout the years.

Thinking back to when I was younger, I never really like writing. Even in high school, I usually hated our teacher who would ask us to write an essay or an analysis paper. But I came to finally realize the importance of it when I was in Grade 9. That school year was really a tough one for me. I’ve encountered a lot of challenges and hardships and the sad thing is, I have no one to talk about it to. Back in that time, “Tumblr” was a very popular thing where my classmates usually write their blogs. And then one evening came and I found myself writing my thoughts in the said website. That’s where it all started.

My love of writing has grown over the years and has helped me through many hard times. I have expressed my feelings many times through my writing, and have written stories that have let my imagination run.
