We can never choose who the people in our lives are. There are people who just happen to pass by along the way while there are others who are destined to stay and make a huge impact in your life.

So many people have come and gone in my life. I have had my fair share of broken friendships. I guess some people are just meant to be part of some chapters but they will never be with you throughout the whole book. But there will be people who will really make a difference. There will be people who will really stay. These kinds of people are for keeps.

How do I know this? Well, I have met my for keeps. They are simply the best.

I have two girl best friends—Allen and Pearl. We have been inseparable for the last four years, making fools out of ourselves in pretty much any situation possible. They were both there when I cried because I found out my crush has a girlfriend, they were there when I fangirl over One Direction, and they were there to make fun of me when I cried while watching A Walk To Remember.

They share a lot of similarities. They are both genuine, reliable, loyal, funny, sweet, caring, and understanding. They have done a lot in my life, in terms of favors and life experiences. We’ve gone to a lot of places together, we’ve watch a lot of movies and Korean dramas, and spent a lot of time talking about nonsense in life. They have seen me at my worst but still love me. They don’t care to see me looking pretty or messy around. I don’t have to impress them and I can be myself all the time.

In spite of this many similarities, they also have quite a difference. Allen is the introvert kind of person while Pearl is the extrovert.

Allen loves to listen and observe. She adores exploring and watching, and prefers it over being the center of attention. She is incredibly observant and wise because she sees a lot of things that other people don’t. But of course, while she always love to listen, she will pipe up when it’s a topic that concerns her. We’ve never really gotten to a huge fight because we sort things out easily. She is a bookworm and a great writer. She has a creative mind, huge imagination and she easily figure things out and philosophize. She deeply cares about her friends and her relationships with other people. She don’t like to put herself in situations where small talk is inevitable for she admits to have social anxiety. She is not a “partygoer” and prefers to stay home most of the time. But in spite all of this, she can be crazy all-round when it’s just the three of us around. One thing that I most adore about her is that she knows how to prioritize things in life. She is intensely interested in the things that she care about and wants to learn everything she can. That is why she’s always been one of my role model.

Pearl is a “crazy one” or may I say “super bubbly.” She is always full of energy in spite the fact that she always have a lack of sleep for she as well is a “nocturnal” kind of person. She hates small talks and loves to talk all the time, that’s why I wouldn’t find it boring whenever I’m with her. She is very open in discussing matters with regards to her family, love life, and other stuff. She prefers to be around people, but that certainly doesn’t mean she falls apart if left on her own. She shows her care and concern through taking initiative and being sweet or clingy. She has been my companion every time I wanted to see a movie and eat whenever I’m hungry. She’s very driven in pursuing her dreams to become an architect and go to Paris. She knows how to speak French as well. One thing that I most admire about her is that she is a very strong person. She won’t easily give up on things that she loves. She is truly an amazing person.

Ever since they have been a part of my life, I feel like I finally belong somewhere. The fun times I’ve had with them are always one for the books. The sad ones gave me the most important lessons that I will always bring with me as I continue to face the adventures of life.

Each of us have gone through so much struggle, pain and suffering but we helped each other in remolding each and everyone into being the best versions of ourselves. Somehow, they pulled me out of the dark and they made me realize that there’s a much bigger world out there and the things I’m going through are just mere obstacles that I need to surpass.

They helped me to realize that problems are meant to be solved and they’re not meant to destroy us. They helped me to be better and they helped me to appreciate myself and what I can do. They make me want to be even better. They make me want to think deeper about everything and they keep me balanced. For that, I will be forever grateful.

In a world where everything seems unfair, they are the only people I can trust enough to help me with whatever and whenever. We may not be related by blood but I know that we have each other’s backs. It feels pretty amazing to have people who are just one call away. With them, I will always feel safe.

I am so lucky to have been given a chance to be part of something so special. What we have is special. What we have is unconditional.
